Hi! I’m Kiera
Creator of Where Is Kiera Now. I started this blog and posting on my social media accounts after traveling around the world for a few months during my travel gap year. I want to inspire people to travel and to understand ways that they can make traveling more accessible for them.
Why is it called Where Is Kiera Now?
I often don’t tell friends and family where I’m going until I’m there and I’m always met with a variation of the question, “Where are you now?!”. Keeping everyone on their toes with wherever I am in the world is what inspired the name and still stands true to my being today.
How do you travel the world for a year?
I didn’t start traveling internationally until I was 19 years old. It was for a 10 day trip to the Middle East that was almost completely sponsored by my college. I paid $200 to go on the trip and when I arrived at the airport they handed us back $100. Those 10 days were my first taste of freedom and made me crave more.
I wasn’t able to travel much again until I studied abroad in Scotland in early 2022. I had lots of savings after years of working part-time and full-time jobs (AKA co-ops!). Since flights around Europe are so cheap and accessible I was able to visit a dozen European countries and started to catch the travel bug! When I got back to the States I went back to my studies and took a few trips here and there. A few months into my senior year in fall 2022 I got an offer to work as a program assistant for a specialized summer study abroad program that my college offered. At that time in my college career I was stressing about having to find a full-time job and have to live unfulfilled probably for the rest of my life. After receiving that job offer I realized that a gap year was a possibility for me! I literally hopped on a plane right after graduation to fly to Switzerland to kick off my gap year-ish of travels, and I’ve been so happy ever since.
